Our Commitment

The Hivery is unequivocal about our stand: Black lives matter.

Change does not occur when we’re comfortable. We are committed to growth. We challenge ourselves and our community to do the work of anti-racism.

That means showing up in the long-term, not just this moment, to break cycles of white privilege, and being willing to go deeper and with more honesty beyond the superficial assumptions of “being a good person”. In this deeper work, it is about being willing to show up, break cycles, and stop assuming, to become better listeners and allies. Listeners who learn and advocate and act.

We can use our voices and take action more and more and more. More empathy, more kindness, more generosity, more depth, more humility, more willingness to face the truth, more commitment, more action. Transformation is required to do the work of learning and unlearning in societal structures that are unjust.

The work of creating a more just and equitable world will be ongoing and we don’t claim to have all the answers but we commit to being part of the solution. We will likely make mistakes, and we are humble to that truth. Here's what we are doing, with a commitment to continue and go further:

  • We are committed to amplifying black voices, leaders, and mentors in our programming and championing a broader range of perspectives through our content and community.

  • We are committed to supporting the protestors and organizations that stand against systemic racial injustice and police brutality, and specifically but not limited to the financial support of Black Lives MatterGrassRoots Law ProjectRachel Cargle and memorials for the families of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, who would be celebrating her 27th birthday today.

  • We are committed to spotlighting more black-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders.

  • We will continue to educate ourselves, share education and resources with our community, and commit to do the work to take further actions that move racial equality forward.

We will create more action around what to do next, fighting the desire to know the answer, but embracing the desire to learn. This is how long-overdue change will happen and we are fully committed to doing the work.

The Hivery was built on kindness. We can be kind and strong. Kind and brave. Kind and humble. Kind and listening. Kind and learning. Kind and taking action. Kind and just. Kind and protective. We’re here to listen, learn, and act.

In solidarity and with love,

The Hivery
